EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR - GOOD NEWS OUTREACH

The Executive Director (ED) of Good News Outreach is a highly-skilled nonprofit professional who provides leadership, vision and direction to the Board of Directors (BOD) and the broader Good News Outreach organization. The Executive Director represents the organization to the public, leads organizational development and strategic planning, optimizes financial performance, oversees program delivery, builds donor relationships, and oversees personnel and volunteers. The Executive Director develops sound practices and supportive relationships, both internally and externally, resulting in cooperative and effective collaborations that further the mission of Good News Outreach.

Good News Outreach is a faith-based non-profit agency dedicated to relieving physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual suffering to those within our surrounding community. We accomplish this mission through our four programs: Food Service, Elder Care, the Mercy House, and the Maryland Oaks Crossing.

The Executive Director works closely with the council BOD and is responsible for expanding systems and procedures to accomplish the mission and reach the strategic goals set forth by the board.

Position Profile

The Good News Outreach Executive Director (ED) must possess a passion for, and commitment to, helping people move towards independence and self-sufficiency. Good News Outreach is a faith-based organization dedicated to relieving physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual suffering to those within our surrounding community

The Good News Outreach ED is responsible for the overall implementation of the Good News Outreach mission. The ED reports to the Good News Outreach BOD. The ED's job responsibilities include developing and implementing the overall strategy and vision for the Good News Outreach program and all organizational and operational aspects of Good News Outreach including its administration, financial operations, revenue generation, program development and activities, personnel management and strategic planning. Some of the key responsibilities falling within these areas include:

  • Program and Staff Management
  • Attracting, developing and retaining staff and volunteers
  • Developing and fostering a strong and open dialogue with the BOD
  • Maintaining appropriate staffing structure; overseeing recruiting, training, development, and evaluation of staff
  • Program Development and Strategic Planning
  • Planning, in coordination with the Board and staff, for the direction and leadership of the overall program
  • Cultivating relationships with donors, participants, sponsors and volunteers
  • Maintain ultimate responsibility for donor database for gift acknowledgement, mailing list creation and donor history processes which respects the privacy and confidentiality of donor information.
  • Receive notifications regarding property maintenance and safety issues and coordinates timely resolutions.  Maintain emergency preparedness activities in accordance with policies and procedures.

Organizational Administration

Ensure that the organization is in compliance with all laws and guidelines governing nonprofit organizations and the Good News Outreach Policies and Guidelines.

Developing and implementing necessary policies and procedures

  • In coordination with the Board, identifying and planning for infrastructure growth to parallel growth of program
  • Develop relationships with the local media and serve as the Good News Outreach primary contact to market the program and build additional community support
  • Effectively develop business systems and strategies and ensure appropriate implementation.
  • Maintain ethical standards and accountability, manage risk, perform due diligence, and implement operational best practices.
  • Fund development – with appropriate staff, committees and Board
  • Develop diverse funding streams and long-term plans to best support the mission and goals of the organization.
  • Oversee fundraising efforts including sponsorship, donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, grants, special events, etc.
  • Actively participate in donor cultivation and solicitation.
  • Develop collaborative projects/partnerships with other community providers.
  • Finance – with Treasurer, finance staff and appropriate committees
  • Responsible for all grant writing and reporting to established funding sources, including the City of Tallahassee, Leon County and the Community Human Services Partnership, as well as seeking new grant sources and timely submitting required documents
  • Ensure optimal financial performance of the council.
  • Maintain processes for proper record keeping and internal financial controls.
  • Assist BOD with development and management of annual budget.
  • With the Treasurer and finance staff, review and report all financial activities to the Board on a regular basis.
  • Review analysis of financial activities (income and expense) to discern trends, identify areas of improvement, address problems and develop forecasts.
  • Manage and maintain website and social media sites

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be comfortable engaging in both strategic activities as well as taking a hands-on role with regards to program execution and administrative issues. Bachelor's degree and four years of relevant experience or associate's degree and six years of relevant experience within at least one of the following fields: organizational management, non-profit leadership preferred

  • Passion for Good News Outreach's mission and the ability to comprehend and effectively communicate issues related to the populations served
  • Outstanding communication skills in multiple environments and with a range of audiences (internal and external)
  • Demonstrated experience setting and managing budgets and financial forecasting
  • Ability to prioritize and make efficient decisions

 Salary range is $48,000-$55,000.

ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST - ELDER CARE SERVICES

Role and Responsibilities

Process and maintain records used for client and kitchen meal customers billing.

Process, reconcile, file and report on accounts receivable or other assigned areas of responsibility.

Run A/R aging reports for department staff each month. Process write-offs as approved.

Maintain fiscal files including deposits, AR billing, JV’s.

Assist the CFO with the independent audit as requested.

Perform monthly bank reconciliation and other account reconciliations.

Perform other duties as assigned by the CFO and/or the President/CEO.

Successful completion of a Level II criminal history check, NSOPW registry search, and pre-employment drug screening

Qualifications and Education Requirements

High school diploma with post high school training or college courses in accounting or business administration. Associates or bachelor’s degree preferred.

Excellent computer skills with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel; MIP accounting software knowledge preferred.

1-2 years of experience with Accounts Receivable/Billing/Journal Entries.     

Good organization, documentation, and communication skills; detail oriented.
