CareerSource Capital Region is holding its second annual Fair Chance Hiring Fair on Wednesday, April 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  If you are a fair chance employer who is currently/will be hiring as of the hiring fair, I invite you to attend the hiring fair.  Please see below for our definition of fair chance hiring.  If you meet that definition, will have at least one job posted on Employ Florida through 4/24/24, and want to reserve a table, please let me know as soon as possible.  We are limited to 12 employer tables and they will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.

    What is Fair Chance Hiring?

Fair Chance Hiring is the practice of treating applicants with a criminal history the same as every other qualified candidate. Fair chance hiring is known as second chance hiring. In fair chance hiring, candidates with criminal backgrounds are given a fair chance for job opportunities, or a second chance at entering the workforce.

Fair chance hiring means that everyone, regardless of their background, has the right to be fairly assessed for a role they are qualified to fill, and that employers do not:

    · Include any questions about conviction history on a job application.

    · Ask about or consider candidates’ criminal history before a conditional       offer has been made.

    · Consider information about arrests not resulting in convictions, or convictions that have been sealed, dismissed, expunged, or statutorily eradicated.

After offering a candidate a job, employers should perform an assessment about a candidate's history criminal, including the nature and gravity of the criminal history, the time that has passed since the conviction, and the nature of the job that the candidate is seeking.
